The Green Bay Packers, like most teams that have made the NFL Playoffs, are entering the postseason a lot less healthy than they perhaps would have liked. The reality of a 17-game NFL season is that there will be significant injuries along the way.
Unfortunately, the Packers have seen two of their best players ruled out for the remainder of the season (and postseason) with injuries in the past few days. Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, who was trying to come back from a torn PCL suffered midseason, had to have season-ending surgery on his knee.
Earlier on Monday, it was reported that wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a torn ACL in Green Bay’s loss to the Chicago Bears. He is obviously out for the postseason and could miss the start of the 2025 NFL season as well.
The Green Bay Packers Have Mostly Been without Marshawn Lloyd and Jordan Morgan
In addition to losing two of their star players late in the season, Green Bay has unfortunately been without two of their top draft picks for the majority of the year. First round pick Jordan Morgan suffered a shoulder injury during training camp. The injury lingered all season, limiting him to just six games.
Additionally, third round pick Marshawn Lloyd has dealt with a variety of injuries all year. He suffered a hamstring injury in training camp, and then re-aggravated it when he returned for a preseason game. Lloyd was still included on the 53-man roster despite the injury, but was inactive for Green Bay’s first two games.
When he did make his NFL debut, he suffered a severe ankle sprain which landed him on injured reserve for the majority of the season. Once the Packers opened up his practice window and designated him to return, he suffered appendicitis and needed surgery.
Late last week, he announced on Instagram that his season was over, and many believed it was because of having his appendix removed. However, that is not the case.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Hurt His Hamstring Again
According to a report by Packers insider Tom Silverstein, Lloyd actually hurt his hamstring again before his appendix needed to be removed:
“According to a source, Lloyd aggravated a hamstring injury he had suffered in training camp and wasn’t able to return to practice even after he had healed from the appendectomy. The Packers still have him listed on the non-football injury list, where they were able to place him after he required surgery.”
Also per Silverstein, Green Bay is sending Lloyd to the same lab they sent Watson and Eric Stokes to last offseason to get their hamstring injury history figured out.
While Watson did suffer an ACL tear, the only other games that he missed were the result of a sprained ankle after being tackled awkwardly and a knee bruise from a defender falling on it. Soft tissue injuries have not been a concern.
Stokes has played in all 17 games this season.
Hopefully the visit, which will happen at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, will solve Lloyd’s hamstring issue as well.
