It hasn’t been a full month since Malik Willis was signed by the Green Bay Packers, but it feels like he’s been with the team for much longer than that. For one, he’s already helped the Packers win two games through three games in the 2024 NFL regular season. He is also seemingly winning over everyone on the team.
Via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
As Willis walked through the locker room after the game, teammates greeted him with a joyous embrace. Running back Josh Jacobs, who has known Willis since his college days and, according to passing game coordinator Jason Vrable, led the way in instilling confidence in Willis before his first start.
Wide receiver Bo Melton and tight end Tucker Kraft, too, guys who have played with Willis for only three weeks and change yet have already gravitated toward him. Cornerback Jaire Alexander, the most unique personality on the team, likes Willis so much that he chose to sit next to him on the team plane.
Malik Willis has the Green Bay Packers rallying behind him
Willis has gone about his business for the Packers the best he could, and his teammates and coaches surely appreciate not just his effort but the way he carries himself on and off the field.
Willis will go back to the backup role once Jordan Love returns from injury, which could come as soon as Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, but at the very least, he has proven himself as a worthy insurance behind Love. After two starts in Packers uniform, Willis has accumulated 324 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions and a 126.3 passer rating.
