Last year, the Green Bay Packers and their fans finally got the opportunity to celebrate LeRoy Butler’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It was an honor that Butler spent 10 years in the NFL working for, and nearly 20 years more waiting to happen. This weekend, Butler got to return the favor, in a sense, for his number one fan: his wife Genesis Butler. The Pro Football Hall of Famer shared on Twitter that his wife, Genesis, graduated today from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Our Hope Is that Genesis Butler, Green Bay Packers’ Legend LeRoy Butler’s Wife, Can Be an Inspiration

Gold Jacket Dinner 9626
The old saying is that “Behind every great man is a woman.” How fitting it is, then that Genesis Butler be the one to help LeRoy don his Hall of Game gold jacket for the first time. How wonderful it is, then, that he was able to, in a way, return the favor by celebrating her and her wonderful achievement.
Now, I have spent most of my life either going to school or teaching in one, and there are some trends that many find troubling, trends that Genesis kicked in the teeth.
According to The National Center for Education Statistics, 64.3% of Bachelor Degrees obtained by the male population of the United States was awarded to white men. 60.8% of Bachelor Degrees obtained by the female population was awarded to white women. Of all the Bachelor Degrees awarded to people that identify as these genders, only 8.8% were awarded to African American men and just 11.4% awarded to African American women.
We at Wisconsin Sports Heroics wish to offer our congratulations to Mrs. Genesis Butler on overcoming what is, an glaring issue in our country’s educational system. The odds were against her, yet she prevailed. Our hope that she can be an inspiration to anyone, especially African American women, who want to go to college, but are told that they cannot or that they do not have what it takes.
