The Green Bay Packers will have many decisions to make this offseason. Green Bay will have holes to fill on the defensive side of the football, especially on the defensive line and at cornerback.
There are a few players on the Packers roster who were on the team in 2024 that could very well not be on the team in 2025. General manager Brian Gutekunst made a ton of interesting moves last offseason and he could very well do the same this offseason.
Dairylandexpress.com Writer Joe Summers Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Could Trade Away Kenny Clark This Offseason
Before the start of the 2024 season, Clark signed a three-year contract extension with the Green Bay Packers. The 2024 season was the final year of his original contract. In 2025, his new three-year contract will kick in.
However, despite the fact Green Bay signed him to a new contract, dairylandexpress.com writer Joe Summers thinks that the Packers could move on from defensive tackle Kenny Clark this offseason. Clark is 29 years old and some wonder if it is possible that the Packers gave him a contract extension prematurely. Joe Summers said:
“A three-time Pro Bowler, Kenny Clark has established himself as one of the more beloved Packers in recent history. That makes this obvious cut even more devastating, as Clark’s play didn’t match his reputation in 2024.
He ranked 85th out of 223 players at Pro Football Focus, though even the most casual observer could see the struggles. After recording 7.5 sacks in 2023, Clark managed just 1.5 in 2024.
The 29-year-old defender is beloved for good reason, thought Clark’s on-field performance did little to indicate that Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst should feel confident signing off on a contract extension.
Clark was out-performed in major categories by even depth players, making Gutekunst’s decision an easy one. Losing Clark would hurt but he hasn’t done enough to stick around.
If the team is serious about rising the floor and ceiling of the defense, that means making difficult decisions and letting guys like Clark go.”
Kenny Clark had 37 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, and two pass deflections this season. He underperformed this season. The Green Bay Packers may have made a mistake by giving him a long-term contract.
Contract Situation
With the Green Bay Packers signing Kenny Clark to a new contract before the start of the 2024 season, it will be hard for them to trade him in the offseason. There is a chance that some teams may want the defensive tackle, but the odds are that Green Bay will hang onto him for the 2025 season.
Had the Packers not signed him to a contract extension before the season began, there is a chance that they would have let him not re-sign with the team after the way he performed this season. According to Spotrac, he will be worth a cap hit of $20,365,000 million.
If he is still with the Green Bay Packers in 2025, there is a chance that they can release him after 2025. The dead cap would be worth $17,007,000 million if they cut Kenny Clark after the 2025 season. The bad news for the Green Bay Packers is that they may not be able to move off of him this offseason, but the good news is that if he has another bad season in 2025, they could probably just release him before the 2026 NFL season. If Kenny Clark plays out his contract with the Green Bay Packers, he will not be a free agent until after the 2027 NFL season.
