Earlier this week, it was reported that Green Bay Packers two-time Pro Bowl left guard Elgton Jenkins would be moving to center in 2025. That news came on the heels of reports that stated Green Bay had signed former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Aaron Banks, who will play left guard for the Packers.
Of course, these moves indicated that Josh Myers, who had been Green Bay’s starting center since they selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, would not be retained.
And while this decision was expected by many, the miniscule deal that he signed with the New York Jets in free agency was very surprising.
Former Green Bay Packers Center Josh Myers Signed with the New York Jets

Earlier today, it was reported that Myers was signing a one-year deal with the Jets. In doing so, he is reuniting with Justin Fields, who was his quarterback at Ohio State. Where he will play, though, has yet to be determined.
Former Wisconsin Badgers center Joe Tippmann has been New York’s starting center for two years. However, he has the ability to play guard and could shift to one of those two spots while Myers plays center.
Regardless of where he plays, though, the Jets are certainly not going to be paying him very much money. His one-year deal is for just $3.5 million, a fact that Packers fans were quick to take notice of:
Wow. Massively small contract. Green Bay really was ready to move on. https://t.co/CmdMI3xOOB

I am genuinely surprised by the small contract value and years on this for Josh Myers. This is barely more than he made in the last year of his rookie contract. 👀
Packers and the league not high on Myers… https://t.co/IyV1x3023u

Sheesh. So little money. Shows you how other teams viewed Myers’ play last year https://t.co/QudiF6umgF

Obviously, with how small of a salary he received, the Packers could have brought Myers back if they had wanted to. However, seeing as they did not, it is clear that Green Bay was more than ready to move on from the player they drafted right before three-time Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey.
