In the eyes of former NFL star Shannon Sharpe, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is the real deal.
During a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, Sharpe expressed his belief in Love while discussing which among the young (25 and under) quarterbacks in the league will be able to reach the Super Bowl first. Also, Sharpe interestingly pointed out similarities between Love and former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.
“I’m not gonna say he’s gonna get to a Super Bowl and win an MVP in the very near future. I’m not gonna say it’s gonna be a four-time league MVP like Aaron Rodgers,” Sharpe said.
“But if you look at his mannerism and you look at his throwing motion, if you close your eyes, and that they put Rodgers on the back of that number nine you couldn’t tell me the difference between his arm angles and the way he jumps and throws the ball, and the way he maneuvers in the pocket, and the way he can change arm angles. Both of these guys [Love and Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud] are special to watch but I think the NFC is a little easier to get through because of the quarterback situation, so I’m gonna say I trust Jordan Love just a little bit more.”

Love grabbed the challenge of being the regular starter for the Packers in 2023 by the horn and ran with it. In his first year in that role following the departure of Rodgers, Love recorded 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. It is safe to say that he exceeded expectations in 2023, even leading the Packers to the playoffs and a win in the postseason.
Love has a long way to go to come even remotely close to what Rodgers was as a QB for Green Bay, but he’s in the right direction.
