The Green Bay Packers will have to decide which free agents to keep this offseason and which ones to not keep. One of the big free agents for Green Bay this offseason will be offensive lineman Josh Myers.
There will be an open market for Myers if the Packers choose not to re-sign him this offseason. The Green Bay Packers last offseason signed Kenny Clark and Jordan Love to contract extensions and Rashan Gary also received a contract extension. Will the Packers decide to use the franchise tag this offseason or no?
CBS Sports Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Will Not Use the Franchise Tag This Offseason
Tyler Sullivan of cbssports.com wrote about one potential candidate for each NFL team who could be franchise-tagged this offseason. Not every team will have a candidate. Sullivan thinks that the Packers will not franchise tag anyone this offseason. Tyler Sullivan said:
“Similar to Detroit above, the Packers don’t use the franchise tag often, so it’s hard to imagine them deploying it this offseason, especially with no major free agents. They’ll spend their $42 million in available space elsewhere.”
There is no question that the Green Bay Packers will look to spend money in free agency this offseason. They have some glaring needs on the roster. They will need to look at defensive line, cornerback, and wide receiver in free agency, the trade market, and also the NFL Draft.
Not Strong Free Agents
The strongest free agent on the list for the Green Bay Packers this season is Josh Myers. Outside of that, it is not strong by any means. Eric Stokes will not be brought back. Brandon McManus could be brought back but will see if the Packers bring him back as the kicker next season or not.
Bo Melton is a wide receiver who could be re-signed, but the Packers could look to go in a different direction at wide receiver. It is not worth it to use the franchise tag on players this offseason, but next season could be a whole different with that.
