Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his Week 5 performance against the Los Angeles Rams in a 24-19 win. McKinney is one of the reasons why Green Bay’s defense has been more aggressive this season.
McKinney recorded three tackles, and one interception, and had a fumble recovery in the win in Week 5. For the first five games of the 2024 season, McKinney has five total interceptions already. He has a chance to record 10 interceptions this season.

A lot of Packers fans think that he could be the Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL if this keeps up. It has been a long time since a safety dominated on the defensive side of the football. McKinney is the best safety that the Packers have had since Nick Collins and also Charles Woodson.
Rasul Douglas Last Packers Player To Win This Honor
The last time a Green Bay Packers player won NFC Defensive Player of the Week was Rasul Douglas back in Week 12 of the 2021 season against the Los Angeles Rams. He had four passes defended in that matchup and also had a 33-yard pick-six when the Packers won over the Rams 36-28.
It has been quite some time since this honor has happened for the organization. It goes to show how badly the defense has been struggling over the last couple of seasons.
