Lots of eyes are on the kicker battle over the side of the Green Bay Packers. The competition is between Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph. Even though the 2024 NFL season is less than a month away, there remains no certainly about who between the two kickers will win the job.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky thinks Carlson is a Green Bay player on the hot seat at the moment.
Carlson is in a battle with veteran Greg Joseph, who has been slightly better in training camp. Carlson faltered down the stretch last season, culminating with that missed 41-yard field goal late in the playoff loss to the 49ers. He missed more kicks than anyone else in the league last season. The Packers probably should have brought in someone else before it got to that point. It’s hard to imagine they would have as much patience this time around. —
Packers and NFL fans in general still don’t forget that missed kick by Carlson during last season’s NFC divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite his missed kick in an extremely crucial contest, Carlson is still with the Packers, looking to be Green Bay’s kicker again in 2024. For what it’s worth, Carlson may have just his stock boosted after Joseph missed a 47-yard field goal attempt in Green Bay’s embarrassing 27-2 loss to the Denver Broncos on the road last Sunday.
Carlson, who is on a four-year deal worth $3.99 million with the Packers, went 27/33 on his field goal tries in the 2023 campaign – his rookie season in the league.
