The moment the Green Bay Packers lost Jordan Love to injury during the 2024 season opener, it became clear that Matt LaFleur would be using the run game more often in the next two games.
While Malik Willis did surprisingly well during the two games he started in Green Bay, it was clear that Matt LaFleur sorely missed Jordan Love’s arm power and accuracy as the Packers ran the ball plenty of times. It was the perfect platform for Josh Jacobs to shine.
The rush-heavy offense didn’t just put a spotlight on Jacobs’ talent. Many saw how effective Emmanuel Wilson has been for the Packers’ run scheme over the past two weeks. Fans and analysts are sounding off their appreciation for the 25-year-old running back, with one claiming that he’s solidifying his spot on the roster with his solid performances.
Analyst believes Emanuel Wilson is boosting his value for the Green Bay Packers after three weeks of solid RB play
Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse wrote about how well Wilson has been performing for the Packers over the past three weeks. He highlighted his blocking and his impressive run game:
Through three games, Wilson is second on the Packers offense in touches (25) and third in total yards (142). Who would have guessed? Wilson’s breakout game arrived Sunday, when he scored his first career touchdown and set a new career high for total yards (85) during the Packers’ 30-14 win over the Tennessee Titans.
The Johnson C. Smith and Fort Valley State product is already putting up better numbers than what he did in seven games during his rookie season. While he’s still to notch a rushing touchdown to his name, he’s slowly but surely establishing himself as a reliable running back in LaFleur’s offense.
Wilson and the rest of the Green Bay Packers will be up for a tough challenge when they face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but the form he’s shown through the first couple of games should provide plenty of encouragement for Packers fans that he will continue to play well.
