Earlier today, it was reported that the Green Bay Packers had signed former San Francisco 49ers offensive guard Aaron Banks to a four-year $77 million contract. It was also revealed that the team had no plans in bringing back center Josh Myers. With these two bits of news, there were suddenly questions regarding what the starting offensive line would look like.
Zach Tom, who is regarded by many to be Green Bay’s best offensive lineman, has played right tackle for the last two years on a level that many feel should have earned him a Pro Bowl nod at least once. That being said, he also possess the ability to play every position on the offensive line.
For over a year, many have wondered if he was going to be the Packers’ future center. However, he will not. They are, though, moving another star lineman to that position.
The Green Bay Packers Are Moving Elgton Jenkins to Center

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, it will be two-time Pro Bowl left guard Elgton Jenkins who will be moving over to play center:
“According to a source, the signing allows the Packers to move left guard Elgton Jenkins to center and place Banks at left guard.”
Since coming into the NFL with the Packers in 2019, Jenkins has played all five positions on the offensive line. While he came out of Mississippi State as a guard, he started out his collegiate career there as a center.
As Silverstein notes, the plan is for Banks to take Jenkins’ old position at left guard. Presuming the rest of the 2024 starters keep their jobs, the offensive line will be Tom at right tackle, Sean Rhyan at right guard, Jenkins at center, Banks at left guard, and Rasheed Walker at left tackle.
A big question going forward, though, will be where Jordan Morgan, the Packers’ first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will play. He and Rhyan were neck and neck for the right guard job, but a shoulder injury ended his season early.
Given how much Green Bay is paying Banks, it would appear the only position Morgan can play anytime soon is right guard, as Rhyan is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2025. Tom will get a massive contract extension this year, and Walker has been solid at left tackle.
