Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks has had an impressive rookie season. He is looking to take a jump from year one to year two in the NFL. Last season with the Packers, he caught 39 passes for 581 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 14.9 yards per catch.
Wicks was targeted 58 times last season by quarterback Jordan Love. Dontayvion Wicks hopes to have a bigger role in season two and he stepped up in place of wide receiver Christian Watson last season, who was sidelined often due to injury.
Dontayvion Wicks could have the potential to have close or over 1,000 yards receiving in his second season with the Packers. Last year, Green Bay did not have a single 1,000-yard receiver and it could change this year.

Les Spellman is the speed coach of Wicks. He has also worked with other NFL stars like Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence. Spellman posted on his Instagram page about Dontayvion Wicks by saying:
“My favorite thing as a coach is knowing a guy’s about to take OVER — but nobody knows yet. It’s like your sitting on this big secret. Then BOOM the world finds out and they go crazy. And we just sit and laugh because it was just planning. It wasn’t random. It wasn’t luck. It wasn’t the “perfect” situation. We fought for it. For years. Then we do it again. We increase value. This game is about getting the highest value early then increasing it even more until they have NO choice but to meet your demands. We’ve done it over and over again but for some reason everyone comments how lucky or perfect the situation was. So I guess I’m writing all this just so y’all are on notice NOW. HES NEXT.”
A lot of Packers fans knew who Wicks was last season but not a lot of other NFL fans. In 2024, it is quite possible that a lot of the NFL is going to realize who he is in a hurry. Wicks was one of the best wide receivers a season ago at getting open against man coverage.
Having Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Christian Watson on the same playing field and also having Jordan Love at quarterback is going to help Wicks in his second season.
