The Green Bay Packers will have the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With the draft coming up, the NFL scouting combine will begin later this week.
There is no question that the Packers will be scouting the defensive line very closely. It was one of the Green Bay Packers’ weaknesses during the 2024 NFL season. If they want to be a Super Bowl contender during the 2025 season, that position will have to be fixed.
CBS Sports Mock Draft Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting Oregon Ducks Defensive Lineman Derrick Harmon 23rd Overall
CBS Sports writer Tyler Sullivan created his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. These mock drafts are going to be updated often before the 2025 NFL Draft occurs in late April. With the 23rd pick, Sullivan has the Green Bay Packers selecting Oregon Ducks defensive lineman Derrick Harmon. Mike Renner said:
“He looks like he can play. Just that perfect intermediate body type at 6-foot-4 with long arms and 315 pounds that looks like he can play nose tackle, looks like they can play three-technique, looks like they can play a 3-4 defensive end. For the Packers, that’s really important for them to have that kind of versatility.”
Harmon is 6’5″ and weighs 310 lbs. Last season with the Oregon Ducks, he recorded 45 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections. The Green Bay Packers making this pick would be a good move for this franchise.
Derrick Harmon could very well be available by the time that the Packers are on the clock this year. Harmon will not be the only name that they could select at the defensive line position with the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Scouting Report
NFLdraftbuzz.com has a scouting report for Harmon. Some of his strengths are:
“Displays thunderous hands that enable him to consistently win the leverage battle at the point of attack and natural power player who brings elite upper body strength and core stability, making him a nightmare for centers trying to reach block or guards attempting to drive block.”
The Green Bay Packers do need players who can create havoc within the interior on the defensive line. However, some of Derrick Harmon’s weaknesses are:
“Still developing consistency in his tackling technique – will sometimes rely too much on arm tackles instead of bringing his lower body through contact and can get overaggressive pursuing the quarterback, occasionally running himself out of plays when he loses containment responsibilities.”
It remains to be seen what the Green Bay Packers will do this offseason about the defensive line position. It will be interesting to see what Derrick Harmon will do during the NFL scouting combine. His draft stock could go up, stay the same, or drop depending on what happens.
