The Green Bay Packers have the second-most players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame any NFL franchise. Only the Chicago Bears have more. Over the last three decades, many notable players have donned the Green and Gold and carved out legacies that live on in Canton, Ohio.
Two of these players, quarterback Brett Favre and defensive end Reggie White, helped bring the Packers organization out of the Dark Ages of the 1970s and 1980s and back to the realm of perennial contenders. Indeed, one cannot talk about either and their time in Green Bay without mentioning the other.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Shared One of His Favorite Reggie White Stories

On Friday, Favre shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) of him telling a hilarious story about the Hall of Fame pass rusher, calling it one of his favorite memories of the Minister of Defense:
There’ll never be another Reggie White. This was one of my favorite stories. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/8X47i3Ln1w

“We’re out in preseason practice here, right outside of the Hudson Center. Mirko Jurkovic was [an offensive] lineman at Notre Dame and we had picked him up. This is his rookie season, so he’s trying to make the team.
“He’s blocking against Reggie in practice, and you know, Reggie’s not, none of the guys really gave it their best effort in practice. I mean, you didn’t want Reggie to give his best effort. It would disrupt practice too much.
“So he’s not, and he would never hit the quarterback. So he rushes in and Mirko grabs and kind of pulls him down. And Reggie said, ‘Hey Mirko! Quit the holding!’ Mirko says, ‘Hey! F you, Reggie!’
“Mirko’s a Chicago kid, you know, and kind of brash. So I’m kind of standing in the back and I’m like, ‘This is not going to be good.’
“Reggie digs in and gets, you know, and I said ‘Hut.’ And he clubbed Mirko, and it was a domino effect and all five guys just fell down. I mean, it was horrible.
“And Reggie says, ‘Now God loves you, Mirko. But don’t ever hold me again.’
“And he never held him again.”
Favre seemed to have misremembered Jurkovic’s status on the team, which makes sense as it was so long ago.
The former Notre Dame product was actually drafted by the Bears in 1992, but did not make the team. The Packers brought him in during the 1994 preseason and gave him a shot to make the roster.
Which he didn’t.
Unfortunately, Jurkovic passed away from colon cancer in 2013. Interestingly, his son, Mirko Jurkovic Jr., played offensive guard at Georgia and is currently the assistant offensive line coach at the University of South Florida.
