Green Bay Packers defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. has become one of the team’s best pass rushers at this point of the 2024 season, and defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich is happy to see Cox’s progress in the past few weeks.
“Doesn’t surprise me. Last year when he came here, I have a big heart for Brenton. He’s a young man that’s worked his rear-end off, and I think that the kid has done an outstanding job physically and mentally,” Rebrovich said about Cox via Paul Bretl of 105.5 FM ESPN La Crosse.
Brenton Cox Jr., who signed with the Green Bay Packers as a UDFA in 2023, had to wait his turn. When the team surprisingly traded Preston Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers before their Week 10 bye, it opened up a new opportunity for Cox, and he capitalized.
Brenton Cox Jr. was one of the Green Bay Packers’ highest-graded defensive players in their Week 16 victory over the New Orleans Saints, as the PFF gave him an 88.7 grade – good for second behind Rashan Gary, who had a 90.6 grade.
Why Brenton Cox Jr. stood out for the Green Bay Packers in Week 16
Brenton Cox Jr. was a defensive demon for the Green Bay Packers against the New Orleans Saints, as he made Spencer Rattler’s life difficult. The one-time second-team All-SEC member led the team with six pressures, as Green Bay pressured Rattler on 52.6 percent of dropbacks.
Cox sacked Rattler for a seven-yard loss in the third period, so he has a sack in back-to-back games and three of the last four. Overall, Cox has 12 total tackles, 4.0 sacks, one forced fumble, and six quarterback hits, even though he has only played in six games.
