Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Aaron Rodgers has always been one of the most talked-about players in the NFL. Even before he began his legendary run as the Packers’ starting quarterback, he was often discussed as the player who was selected to replace Brett Favre, who of course now is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
It did not take long, though, for Rodgers to be talked about for his brilliant play and otherworldly talent after Green Bay did hand him the reins to the offense in 2008. 15 years and four NFL MVP’s later, Rodgers is now considered a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in his own right.
But in the latter years of his tenure in Green Bay, and even more so now that he plays for the New York Jets, Rodgers’ personal life and his unconventional beliefs make nearly as many headlines, if not more, than his play on the field.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Started Dating Actress Shailene Woodley in 2020
2020 was a strange year for everyone. The COVID-19 pandemic locked down the world and forced professional sports to be run and played a little differently. It also created a forum in which people with a wide variety of differing opinions were able to share their views and beliefs.
It was also the year the Packers drafted Jordan Love to eventually replace Rodgers.
Rodgers’ comments about the nation’s protocols, vaccines, and other matters, as well as the spotlight put on him because of the Love pick, put a spotlight on him unlike any he had experienced in his career.
This included his love life. While he had previously dated high-profile celebrities Olivia Munn and Danica Patrick, those relationships were not covered much by the media. Everyone knew when he was dating them, and there were some tabloids written about those relationships, but they paled in comparison the coverage his relationship with Shailene Woodley got.

Rodgers and Woodley started dating in 2020, and during his NFL MVP acceptance speech following that season, the former Packers quarterback announced that the pair were engaged.
A year later, though, the couple broke up.
Shailene Woodley Shares Unfortunate Details About Her Relationship with Aaron Rodgers
Earlier this week, Woodley opened up about the end of her relationship with Rodgers, and it did not paint the former Packers quarterback in a very good light.
“I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry,” Woodley said according to US Magazine.
“I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy,” she continued.. “I really understood depression and anxiety and complete soul detachment.” She called her relationship with Rodgers a “toxic situation,” but said she stayed in the relationship longer because she is an empathetic person.
For his part, Rodgers has always spoken highly of Woodley in interviews since their breakup. He did seem to move on quite quickly and he started dating Mallory Edens, the daughter of one of the Milwaukee Bucks’ owners, in 2023.
Rodgers himself is a minority owner of the Bucks.
