The Green Bay Packers decided that it was time to move on from four-time NFL MVP and future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers following the 2022 season. Green Bay finished 8-9 that year while Rodgers completed 64.6% of his passes for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 91.1 passer rating. Infamously, Rodgers threw a game-sealing interception in Week 18 against the Detroit Lions, which cost the Packers a trip to the NFL Playoffs.
The decision to trade the 10-time Pro Bowler, though, was met with a great deal of criticism. Many did not believe that Jordan Love would be able to continue the standard of excellence that Rodgers and Brett Favre set for Packers quarterbacks.
Fortunately, he did and has helped Green Bay reach the postseason in each of his first two years as their starting quarterback.
But while Love’s future looks bright, Rodgers’ is far from certain.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Has Struggled with the New York Jets
Currently, Love and the Packers are 11-5 and, while they lost the Minnesota Vikings again this past Sunday, are headed to the postseason. Rodgers and the Jets, meanwhile, are 4-12 and headed for what is sure to be a dramatic offseason.
While Rodgers has not played poorly, per say, he has been far from the player that the Jets thought they were getting when they first acquired him from the Packers. Needless to say, Love has been the better quarterback between the two since the start of the 2023 NFL season:
Aaron Rodgers | Jordan Love | |
Games | 17 | 31 |
Completion % | 62.8% | 63.8% |
Passing Yards | 3,623 | 7.479 |
Touchdowns | 24 | 57 |
Interceptions | 10 | 22 |
Passer Rating | 88.9 | 96.6 |
Since the 2024 season started, New York has fired their head coach and general manager. The owner, Woody Johnson, has also apparently had a falling out with Rodgers and would like to move on from him in 2025.
For his part, Rodgers has stated that, if he does want to play next season, he would like to play for the Jets. That being said, a new report states that he does have some backup plans in mind.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Apparently Has a List of 4 NFL Teams He Would Like to Play For
Now, it should be noted that Rodgers has said on multiple occasions that he has a very tight circle, and no one in that circle talks to the media about him.
That being said, the Daily Mail recently reported that a source close to Rodgers has indicated that the future Hall of Fame quarterback has four teams in mind that he would like to play for if New York wants to move on from him and if he still wants to play next year:
“Aaron wants to play again and finish his career on his own terms and though he has mentioned he would like to continue playing with the Jets, he would love to be released and give it another go with another team.
“If the Jets keep him around, he will try to right the ship and give it one last go, but he believes he would be better used and be a better fit in Cleveland, Indianapolis or Tennessee, and he also would be interested in heading to Las Vegas.”
The Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, or Las Vegas Raiders.
Frankly, none of these teams make much sense for a player like Rodgers. While all of them are certainly in need of improved quarterback play, none of them are any good or show signs that they will be competitive anytime soon.
The Browns are currently 3-13, the Colts are 7-9, the Titans are 3-13, and the Raiders are 4-12. The only thing Rodgers really has left to accomplish in his career is to win another Super Bowl. He is not going to do that with any of those four teams, which makes one wonder if this source from the Daily Mail is a made up one.
It is highly unlikely that this report is true. Rodgers, as mentioned, has said that if he plays next year, he wants it to be for the Jets. However, he is not even sure if he will want to play at all.
That being said, until he announces his retirement or the Jets announce his release, people will speculate about where he will spend 2025.
