The Green Bay Packers last offseason released Aaron Jones after they signed Josh Jacobs in free agency. When Jones was released, he decided to sign a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
Aaron Jones is back on the free agent market this offseason. There is no doubt that there are some teams who will need a running back. Some Green Bay Packers fans may want to see Jones back with the team next season, but there is a chance that it may not happen.
Bleacher Report Thinks That Former Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones’s Ideal Landing Spot Is Back With the Minnesota Vikings
Jones is 30 years old and he was great during the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings. Aaron Jones rushed for 1,138 yards on 255 carries and five touchdowns, along with averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He also caught 51 passes for 408 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.0 yards per reception.
Bleacher Report thinks the ideal landing spot for the former Packers running back is to stay with Minnesota for the 2025 NFL season. Bleacher Report said:
“Jones was the only running back to crack Bleacher Report’s post-regular season list of top free agents. He turned 30 in December but has a long history of high-level production and shined for the Vikings in 2024.
Minnesota snapped up Jones shortly after he was replaced by Jacobs in Green Bay. He went on to rack up 1,138 rushing yards, 408 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Age will be a bit of a concern, but Jones should still warrant a two- or three-year contract—likely a front-loaded deal. He has a projected market value of $5.6 million annually but shouldn’t see a significant pay cut after playing on a $7 million deal in 2024.
Returning to Minnesota on a three-year, $21 million deal would make plenty of sense for Jones. He proved to be a strong fit in Kevin O’Connell’s offense and could play a big role in helping the Vikings transition to McCarthy at quarterback.”
If the Vikings were to lose Aaron Jones, they would have to find a potential replacement for him for the 2025 season. He fit well in Minnesota’s offense last season. Jones played well in 2024 like he did with the Green Bay Packers toward the end of the 2023 NFL season.
Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers Other Teams To Watch For
Imagine if Aaron Jones signs with the Green Bay Packers’ biggest rival this offseason, the Chicago Bears. Chicago would be an interesting fit because they already have D’Andre Swift in the backfield unless they plan on moving off of him this offseason.
As for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they had Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren this past season, but Jones would be an upgrade for the Steelers’ offense. There is no question that Jones will have suitors for him this offseason.
