Running back Aaron Jones and Davante Adams are no longer with the Green Bay Packers but the former teammates have formed a strong bond.
In a piece from Aaron Jones published in The Players’ Tribune ahead of Week 4’s game between the Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. Jones shared a story about a gesture made to him by Adams during his rookie season in the NFL that gave the former UTEP Miners star’s confidence a tremendous boost.
“I remember this one moment early on in camp my rookie season. The Packers had drafted three running backs in 2017, and the receivers started taking “bets” on which of us was going to come out on top. Obviously a lot of guys had Jamaal since he was drafted the highest. Then one day in camp, Davante walks up to me. He’s the No. 1 receiver, right? Fourth year and about to make a Pro Bowl. He’s the dude in that room — and he comes over to me on the sideline, I don’t even know why, and he says, “I got you as my dog in this race.” I can’t even tell you what that did for me, honestly. It was like, OK, Davante Adams believes in me?? It meant a lot.”
Aaron Jones had a memorable career with the Green Bay Packers
Jones was taken in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Packers. Selected ahead of him was Jamaal Williams, who got taken off the board in the fourth round, while the other running back the Packers took was Devante Mays in the seventh round.
Of the three, Jones easily had a more memorable career with the Packers. For one, he played the most seasons among the trio, as he spent his first seven seasons in the league with Green Bay. During his stint with the Packers, Jones racked up 5,940 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns on 1,177 rushing attempts.
