Damian Lillard’s averages now may be lower compared to his peak years with the Portland Trailblazers but he remains just as good, earning himself an All-Star Game spot from the coaches.
The Milwaukee Bucks star is one of the four guards named to the All-Star Reserves for the February festivities happening at Chase Center of the Golden State Warriors.
He will be joined in the bench by Darius Garland and Evan Mobley of the league-leading Cleveland Cavaliers, Jaylen Brown of the defending champions Boston Celtics, rising star Cade Cunningham of Detroit Pistons, first-time All-Star Tyler Herro of Miami Heat, and Indiana Pacers big man Pascal Siakam.
He will also join Giannis Antetokounmpo who was named an All-Star starter after getting the most fan votes.
Lillard, who was last year’s All-Star Game MVP, is now the third teammate of the Greek Freak that made it to the All-Star game. They both have nine selections so far.
Damian Lillard is 53rd player to get at least nine ASG call ups
Getting multiple All-Star selection is a hard feat. Doing it nine times is legendary.
Lillard joins 52 other players in NBA history to be selected for the All-Star Game for at least nine times.
Lebron James leads everyone with his 21 appearances, followed by Kareem Abdul Jabbar with 19 and Kobe Bryant who has 18.
There are only nine players with nine selections but only four of them remains active – him, Antetokounmpo, Paul George, Russell Westbrook.
If Lillard repeats as an All-Star next year, he will get to tenth, which is done only by 44 players. Active players with 10 ASG appearances are Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden.
