Corbin Burnes’ Surpassed 1 Former Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher For The Largest Contract In Diamondbacks History

Corbin Burnes has made his decision.  The former Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles pitcher is heading out west as he signed the largest contract in Arizona Diamondbacks history.  By signing a six year, $210 million deal, Burnes surpassed a former Brewers pitcher who previously held the largest contract in Diamondbacks history.

According to multiple reports, Corbin Burnes six year deal includes an opt out after the 2026 season.  The Giants and Blue Jays reportedly had larger contracts on the table, but tax differences and remaining closer to home both during spring training and the regular season were two big factors into his decision to sign with Arizona.

Prior to Corbin Burnes signing with the Diamondbacks, their largest contract in franchise history belonged to Zack Greinke.  He signed a six year, $206.5 million deal in 2015.  Greinke did not play out the entirety of that contract with Arizona as he was traded to the Houston Astros in 2019.

Prior to the 2011 season, Zack Greinke was traded in a blockbuster deal by the Kansas City Royals to the Milwaukee Brewers.  The Brew Crew also acquired shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt in the deal.  Both players played pivotal roles in the Brewers run to the NLCS that year, but during July of 2012 he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels.
