The Milwaukee Bucks’ record may not be ideal right now but over at the NBA Emirates Cup, they remain immaculate. Coach Doc Rivers said that is the goal. They’re in it to win it all.
The Bucks defeated the Detroit Pistons by as early as third quarter in a game Rivers’ squad dominated across all areas.
That is a testament game from them. It is not just about finding their stride but also a declaration that they are hungry for the NBA Cup.
“They put a tournament in front of us, and we want to win it,” he said post-game.
Unlike the first three weeks of the season, everything was clicking for the Bucks against the Pistons.
Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to lead the way as he scored 28 points and recorded 7 rebounds and eight assists. Damian Lillard contributed 27-5-0.
The bench is where the Bucks seems to have stepped up as they scored 46 points led by Gary Trent Jr. who had 16 points on 3-out-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Bobby Portis Jr. chipped in 14 points while three-point specialist AJ Green had 11.
Doc Rivers said there’s more work to do
Rivers is determined to win the cup for the Bucks but he is not being overconfident.
“We’re 4-0 but we still have a lot of work to do, but the bottom line is, we earned a chance to play at home — I think,” he said.
The Bucks will face the Orlando Magic who advanced as a wild card despite their loss to the New York Knicks which will face the Atlanta Hawks.
They’re undefeated record also means they have the home advantage.
Over at the Western Conference, it will be the Golden State Warriors may have suffered a painful loss to the Denver Nuggets on the last day of the group stage but they will still advance to face the higher-seeded Houston Rockers.
Dallas Mavericks took care of business against Memphis Grizzlies and that meant facing the Oklahoma City Thunder.
