Continuing with our season report cards, we next look at third baseman Luis Urias and his stats. The Brewers have been missing third-base consistency for a long time. However, Urias has been stable at the position the last few years. Here’s a look at the season for Luis Urias.
Luis Urias Stats (2022)
In 2022, Luis Urias appeared in 119 games. He did miss about the first month of the season with a quad injury. As a result, his season started a little bit later. Luis Urias ended 2022 with the base stats of .239 average, 16 home runs, and 47 RBIs. He also drew 50 walks and 99 strikeouts. Urias was the everyday third baseman, a position the Brewers have been needing consistently for several years now.
Looking Ahead To 2023
Unless something crazy happens this winter and barring a spring training injury, Luis Urias will be the opening day third baseman for the Brewers. In 2023, I am looking for more consistent Luis Urias batting stats. His defense took a big step in 2022. He was originally viewed as shortstop in the trade with the Padres. However, he has become an asset on the field.
I also like the pop in his bat. When he’s able to connect, he can hit it as far as anyone on the roster. Still only 25 years old, Urias has gotten better each year in his short MLB career. I am anticipating he takes another step in 2023. In particular, I am hoping Luis Urias can raise his batting average stats. I don’t think it’s crazy Urias can bat around .270 or .275. If he can do that, there’s a good chance we see 20 home runs and 75 RBIs, a similar line to his 2021 season. I like Luis Urias and I think he has a chance to be in the Brewers’ plans long-term.
