The Milwaukee Brewers offseason has been a wild ride of sorts. While there have been no noteworthy free agent signings, the Brewers have traded for All-Star catcher William Contreras. Additionally, the Brewers unloaded Kolten Wong to the Seattle Mariners for Jesse Winker and Abraham Toro. As many fans know, the trade season was kicked off by sending outfielder Hunter Renfroe to the Los Angeles Angels for Janson Junk and two other pitching prospects. This trade sent Brewers fans into a frenzy. After all, Renfroe was one of the team’s best hitters last season. Why trade him? Well, as one Reddit user posted, there were some serious character concerns.
Hunter Renfroe Was Reportedly Not Subtle About Disliking Hispanic Players
This particular Reddit user has a family member within the Brewers organization. On Christmas, this user asked their family member some burning questions fans have for the Brewers. The family member answered, and the user claims they are not revealing anything that will get the employee fired.
That being said, on the Renfroe trade, the post stated:
“Renfroe stuff. He was such a pain in the a–. They’re grateful Counsel is able to handle players so well. They don’t have a problem bringing in players with attitude problems as long as fans won’t turn on them. He felt Renfroe was not so subtly racist. At the very least didn’t get along well with the Hispanic players.”
Milwaukee has a rich Hispanic heritage and community. If this report is true, there was no way Renfroe could have lasted long with the Brewers anyway.
On the Willy Adames Extension Talks
Good news: Willy Adames wants to be in Milwaukee. Bad news: the spending on shortstops in free agency have risen his price. Per the post:
“They are still pursuing Willy hard but this shortstop market really threw things off. He wants 10 years around 270. Milwaukee was willing to go to 8 for 160. Still optimistic something gets done. He’s not getting traded.”
More bad news: the Brewers and Corbin Burnes are miles apart on extension talks. It does not sound like there is any hope of signing him long-term. Of course, that is the nature of a Mark Attanasio-owned team.

Of course, there is no source name and there is not really a way to find out if any of these rumors are valid. They are, however, very intriguing and do offer possible insight to what is going on behind closed doors.
