The Milwaukee Brewers have made the dreams of many young men come true since they came to Milwaukee over 50 years ago. This year, one young man’s dreams were made extra special when the Brewers selected him in the third round. Alex Binelas, the Brewers’ third round selection, is from Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and played high school ball at Oak Creek High School.
“I want to bring a World Series to Milwaukee. … That’s always going to be in the back of my head, working up through the farm system and every workout that I go through.”

The Scouting Report on Alex Binelas
Alex Binelas is a corner infielder that projects more as a first baseman than third baseman. The Brewers have said that he will get every opportunity to develop at third, but most scouts suggest that he is better suited at first base.
As far as hitting goes, Binelas projects to be a power-hitting corner infielder, something the Brewers have not been able to develop since the days of Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. As an 18-year old freshman at Louisville, Binelas hit 14 home runs against ACC competition. Many scouts already give him a mid-60s power grade, which indicates their belief that he will have serious power once he hits the Majors.

Binelas is not just an all-or-nothing hitter though. He walked over 13% of the time last season against a 23% strikeout rate. In addition, he had 33 total extra base hits and 59 RBI in 59 games (2019 numbers). Overall, he will not compete for any batting titles (he will hit in the .250-.275 range), but projects to be a fearsome power hitter in the Majors.
The Reaction
A native of Oak Creek, Binelas was in his hometown over the weekend. He was even at the Brewers’ game on Friday:
Alex Binelas was at Friday's Reds-Brewers game with some friends, sitting on the first base line. He's gone to 4-5 games in the past month. One of them remarked that he has a chance to stand in the batter's box someday. They didn't know it would be the Brewers who drafted him.

Binelas’ reaction to getting drafted by his hometown team was capture on video, and retweeted by the 2018 NL MVP:
