The Milwaukee Brewers decided to move on from their ace pitcher Corbin Burnes prior to the 2024 season. While it was unfortunate losing Burnes, Milwaukee went on to have a pretty remarkable season. They finished with a 93-63 record and won the NL Central with ease.
However, some late night breaking news occurred regarding their former star pitcher.
“Came Out Of Nowhere” Former Brewers Ace Corbin Burnes Ditches Orioles, Signs $200M Deal With New Team
The former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes went to the National League West Friday, but not the San Francisco Giants.
Burnes, rumored to be a favorite to be signed by the Giants, will instead play for the Arizona Diamondbacks:
According to multiple reports, Burnes gets $210 million and an opt-out after the second year of the contract with the D-Backs, who reached the World Series in 2023 but missed the postseason altogether in 2024.
It’s a stunning conclusion to the free agency of perhaps the most talented free agent pitcher still left on the market. Burnes joins a surprisingly stout rotation in Phoenix along with Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Brandon Pfaadt.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Burnes’ $35 million average annual value is the sixth-largest ever for a starting pitcher.
Here is a look at Burnes’ career stats:
