The Wisconsin Badgers continue to get better and better. The Luke Fickell era in Madison has taken off and there seems to be no end in sight (in a good way). Today the Badgers received incredible news; they got back one of their massive commitments who had previously de-committed. Jamel Howard re-opened his commitment in November following the firing of former head coach Paul Chryst. He then picked up scholarship offers from Michigan, Miami (FL), LSU, and Ole Miss, while also entertaining a prior offer from Illinois. Today he re-committed to the Wisconsin Badgers.
Jamel Howard Re-Commits To The Badgers
Since head coach Luke Fickell arrived in Madison in late November, getting the three-star defensive tackle back was one of his top priorities. Today, Fickell got him back.
“We’ve been on the phone a lot,” Howard told Badger247 in December. “He’s a great guy. He values my position. I can’t ask for a better head coach. You can’t go wrong with him as head coach. He was an up front guy. He cares about the big guys up front and that position.”
First-year defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was reportedly relentless in pursuing Howard. Howard took two official visits to the Badgers, including one in December after Fickell was hired. He also took officials to Illinois, Michigan, LSU, and Miami.
As a senior in high school, Howard had 53 tackles, 8 for loss, 3 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 11 games. Per 247Sports, Howard is the nation’s No. 73 ranked defensive lineman in the class of 2023. The University of Wisconsin Badgers now have now has 15 scholarship players in 2023. Here is a video of his official announcement:
