Aaron Rodgers will have to do a lot of soul-searching this offseason after coming off a nightmare season with the New York Jets. The 41-year-old quarterback could hang up his cleats for good, stay with the New York Jets for one more year, or find another team if he gets waived.
Rodgers is coming off a 2024 season in which he completed 368 of his 584 passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions for a 90.5 QB rating.
If Rodgers gets cut, several NFL teams could be interested in taking him on a short-term deal. The Pittsburgh Steelers look like an interesting destination given their complicated quarterback situation.
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will hit free agency next month, and if they both leave (for some reason), Pittsburgh will have an empty quarterback room. Fields was even floated to be Rodgers’ potential successor in New York if he can’t secure a new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh Steelers legend doesn’t want his former team to pursue Aaron Rodgers
Ben Roethlisberger weighed in on the possibility of Rodgers coming to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, and the two-time Super Bowl champion believes it will be a bad move for his former employers.
“Is Aaron going to play anymore, I mean there’s rumors of him coming to Pittsburgh, which I don’t think it’s a good move for the Steelers. I don’t think that’s what you want,” Roethlisberger said about Rodgers on his podcast.
“I don’t think you want a guy for like a one-year Band-Aid just because if you think that you are just a quarterback away, then you go try and find a quarterback that you think can take you over the top,” he reiterated.
