The Wisconsin Badgers have a long track record of success. From boxing, to track and field, to hockey, Wisconsin has shown they can be successful as any school in the Nation. However, one recent move they just made is not only causing fans to scratch their heads but call for the program to be cancelled completely.
Breaking: Badgers Shock Everyone By Hiring Horrifically Underqualified Coach (Report)

In a news release on Tuesday, Wisconsin announced the hiring of Robin Pingeton as its new women’s basketball coach:
The veteran coach joins the Badgers after 15 years at Missouri. She went 250-218 during that time, including four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2015-19.
Pingeton announced her decision to resign from Missouri in late February of this year, as the Tigers were 13-16 overall and 2-12 in SEC play, tied for last place in the conference. Her last winning season with the program came in 2022-23 — an 18-14 finish. Her only 20-plus-win seasons with the Tigers were from 2015-19, the streak of four consecutive tournament appearances.

Pingeton’s overall head coaching record is 394-299. She previously led Illinois State from 2003-10, winning three Missouri Valley Conference titles and reaching two NCAA Tournaments in that time.
She takes over a Wisconsin women’s basketball program that hasn’t made the tournament or won 20 games since 2010. It has just one winning season in that time — a 16-15 2010-11 campaign. The head coaching job became vacant earlier this month when Marisa Moseley announced her resignation. The Badgers were just 47-75 in four seasons under Moseley, including a 13-17 finish to 2024-25.
After all of the Badgers’ top contributors graduated or transferred, Pingeton will need to rebuild the roster from the top down. Serah Williams, a first-team All-Big Ten forward, tops the list of impactful departures.
Adding McIntosh to the Wisconsin athletics team is another critical move for AD Chris McIntosh. The results of his hirings have been mixed so far. McIntosh’s first major hire Luke Fickell struggled in his first two years, and the men’s hockey program experienced a resurgent first season under Mike Hastings before regressing in 2024-25.
Wisconsin fans certainly feel like this hire was a “lazy” one that shows the school doesn’t prioritize Women’s basketball.
Time will tell if they are correct.
