A shift is about to happen for Wisconsin Badgers as they face a Big Ten team and this is why head coach Greg Gard refuses to feel confident despite their 8-0 record to start the season.
Badgers basketball, which just been ranked 11th in the country by the Associated Press Coaches Poll, is coming off a dominant victory against the Chicago State and will face Michigan Wolverines who are currently 6-1 in the Big Ten standings.
They have the better record but coach Gard doesn’t think that comes into play when it comes to playing the Wolverines.
“We know now we jump back into deep water Tuesday night with league play opening up,” he said over the weekend.
“We’ve got a really good Michigan team coming in here, so we use Sunday and Monday to prep for that and get ready to jump into Big Ten play.”
The Wolverines’ only loss so far came from the hands of Wake Forest Demon Deacons in November 11. They have been on a tear since then.
Coach Dusty May‘s squad has defeated all their opponents by double digits ever since that loss, including the 78-53 victory over Xavier.
Badgers’ Steven Crowl is excited to face Wolverines
The Weasel match-up is one of the most highly anticipated in the opening day of Big Ten phase.
Many fans are excited about the clash of these two quality teams. That’s how Badgers junior forward Steven Crowl feels, too.
“I think we’re all excited to finally play some bigger-name teams, some Big Ten teams,” he said.
“Michigan’s coming off a championship down in Fort Myers … They’re going to come in here hungry. I think we’re all looking forward to those bigger-time games.”
Crowl has every right to feel that way as his confidence, as well as the team’s confidence in him, has grown tremendously this season.
The 7’0 forward has shown flashes of great playmaking that coach Gard is now calling him a 7-footer guard.
