Although Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets did not make the NFL playoffs and were eliminated from postseason contention long before the conclusion of the 2024 regular season, they continue to find themselves in the headlines.
For one, there’s the situation involving Rodgers, whose future with the team remains cloudy. Jets owner Woody Johnson, meanwhile, said that he will let new head coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey take care of business on that front.
Via Zack Rosenblatt and RJ Kraft of The Athletic:
Jets owner Woody Johnson told reporters regarding Rodgers’ future on the roster, “I’m going to leave that to them,” referring to the team’s new regime. He said he will not voice his opinion on the quarterback and that if Glenn and Mougey want Rodgers back, then he’s fine with that.
This can come across as Johnson changing a bit of his tune after the perceived role he had in the changes that happened during the 2024 season, including the firing of head coach Robert Saleh. Although he did not exactly say how the Jets will deal with Rodgers, he clearly delegated that task to the newcomers, with Glenn already sharing his thoughts on it.
Will Aaron Rodgers even play at least one more season in the NFL?
Rodgers, himself, has also not been clear about his future not just with the Jets but in the NFL. There is an option for Rodgers to just hang it up and retire from football. But there must still be the itch to give it a go for at least one more year. Whether that’s with the Jets is something that remains to be seen.
In 17 games in 2024 for the Jets, Rodgers passed for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions while completing 63.0 percent of his throws.
