Former New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini recently made the shocking claim that Aaron Rodgers is forcing his way out of the Big Apple after a disastrous first full season with the team.
“You’d like to keep Aaron because you don’t want to deal with that salary cap hit. But Aaron’s doing everything he can to get cut. The fact that Aaron brought up the ‘I’ve never been cut by a teenager, I’ve never been released by a teenager,’ … that’s a direct shot at the owner,” Mangini said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
“That’s legitimizing everything that’s been said in that organization, that’s making fun of how dysfunctional it is. As soon as he said that, in my mind, he said he wants out,” he added.
The New York Jets have undergone a tumultuous 2024 campaign, which is an understatement. They fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas, and they’re eliminated from playoff contention with their 4-11 record.
Aaron Rodgers puts the New York Jets on notice after losing to the Los Angeles Rams
The New York Jets suffered a 19-9 defeat against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16. Aaron Rodgers completed 28 of his 42 pass attempts for 256 yards and one touchdown in the losing effort.
After the game, the one-time Super Bowl winner made critical comments to his team with two games left this year.
“The last two weeks we can really see who’s on board moving forward and who is ready to get out. It’s just part of the game,” Rodgers said via Ryan Gaydos of Fox News.
“There will be interesting conversations in the next couple of weeks, but just focus on the relationships we have with each other and try to finish this thing out like a pro,” he concluded.
