Aaron Rodgers’ stint with the New York Jets can be described as a big disappointment, to say the least. With only three wins after 13 weeks in the 2024 NFL regular season, the Jets’ chances are unlikely to make the NFL playoffs.
They are going to need something short of a miracle to get there. The lack of success on the field is just one part of the drama in East Rutherford this season. There was also the firing of head coach Robert Saleh in the middle of the season.
What did Aaron Rodgers say about the Lions and Packers?
On Wednesday, Rodgers cited the Detroit Lions and his former team, the Green Bay Packers, when asked if he feels that the Jets are showing the same support to the staff as the said NFC North division teams.
Via Rich Cimini of ESPN:
“Is that a rhetorical question? … Like I said, I cited an example that I’ve seen (the Lions). There were probably examples over the years in Green Bay … but I think it’s an important part of ownership to hire the right guys, set the vision, and then support ’em when the outside world is trying to tear ’em down.”
Has Johnson been publicly supportive?
“I mean, I’d have to look. I don’t follow a lot of stuff. I’d have to ask you guys. Has there been a lot of public comments, supportive comments?”
Reporter: Only firings.
Rodgers: “Yeah, so there’s your answer.” #Jets
The Packers and the Lions are on pace to make the playoffs, which says a lot about the solid decision-making and support their respective coaches and players are getting from the front office and ownership.
In any case, Rodgers, who signed a three-year, $112.5 million restructured contract with the Jets in 2023, has a job to do despite the dire 2024 situation of the Jets – and that’s to lead them on the field for the final five games of the campaign.
