Sometimes you might be sitting around, watching the game and all of a sudden someone says something that makes you say, “Huh?” That was certainly the case Wednesday night as UW-Oshkosh Men’s Basketball and their Head Coach Matt Lewis made some waves in the broadcast both on the national network.
Commentator Jeff Van Gundy, a former coach and current NBA savant, mentioned coach Matt Lewis and the UW-Oshkosh Men’s basketball team. Check out the video below.

What is Coach Van Gundy Talking About?
In the 2019 season UW-Oshkosh, a Division Three school, won the Men’s basketball championship. What made that win so unique was that Matt Lewis, their leader, was an interim Head Coach. (He currently is the full-time coach now.) Lewis took over from Pat Juckem.
So what is the scoop? Why would Lewis have to step in for former Head Coach Pat Juckem?
Nothing seems out of order here. Just a simple job description difference that has led to a very quirky statistic. (Lewis began the year with an interim tag and earned the head coaching title.)
Pat Juckem is the current head coach at Washington University in St. Louis. He also continues to have success.
Division Three Hoops Update
You don’t have to look too far to see the purity in division three Men’s Hoops. Currently, ranked first overall is Christopher Newport, a small school in Newport News Virginia. Two Wisconsin schools grace the early top-ten rankings. UW-Lacrosse is ranked third according to D3Hoops.com and UW-Oshkosh, under Coach Lewis, is ranked tenth.
