MLB Reporter for the New York Yankees Bryan Hoch recently proposed that Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day starter Freddy Peralta could be a trade target. This idea sprung following the injury announcements impacting Gerrit Cole and Devin Williams.
The New York Yankees are surveying the market for starting pitchers (MLB Rumors).
With Gerrit Cole expected to miss the first dozen weeks of the regular season the New York Yankees have been surveying the market for starting pitchers. They reportedly re-engaged in discussions for Dylan Cease before he was traded to the San Diego Padres and had made an offer for Blake Snell. After having no luck with either one of these pitchers they could look to turn their attention elsewhere.
Is Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta available for trade?
Bryan Hoch looked at a few crucial pieces of information regarding Freddy Peralta being a potential trade candidate. He brought up the fact that they traded Corbin Burnes this off-season and also recently lost Devin Williams to an injury that will similarly sideline him for a minimum of 12 weeks. After these two big blows Hoch suggests that Milwaukee could be sellers.
Freddy Peralta has a team friendly contract that keeps him controllable through the 2026 season.
Hoch also recognized the fact that Freddy Peralta has a very team friendly contract that is very advantageous for a small market team like Milwaukee. He is making $5.5 million this year and has a pair of $8.0 million club options for both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. For a pitcher of his caliber who is on a bargain of a contract it is highly unlikely that the Brewers would consider trading him. Even if they did the cost to acquire him would be quite steep.
It will be interesting to see how the Yankees end up covering the innings missed while Gerrit Cole is out, but New York fans should not get their hopes up that Freddy Peralta will end up in their organization.
