The Green Bay Packers‘ secondary now has two players gone for at least the preseason.
Earlier this week, Green Bay revealed cornerback Nate Hobbs had preventive surgery on his knee on Saturday. The Packers are unclear when Hobbs will return to the field, though the veteran who signed with the team in free agency hopes to return in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
Green Bay Packers S Xavier McKinney has an issue

Per Rob Demovsky of ESPN, safety Xavier McKinney announced he’s dealing with a calf issue that has knocked him out of the preseason. He hopes to return for Week 1.
“Obviously glad that we caught it when we caught it, so just kind of trying to take it slow and then the build-up, obviously,” McKinney said. “But I’ll be ready when it’s time to go, for sure… It was just something like just lingering a little bit over time, and that’s really all it really was.”
McKinney is coming off an All-Pro and Pro Bowl campaign for the Packers in 2024. The 2022 second-round pick by the New York Giants is in the second year of his four-year, $67 million contract he signed in March last year.
McKinney was a star on Green Bay’s defense, recording 88 tackles, eight interceptions, and 11 passes defensed in 2024.
Per Demovsky, the calf issue was a “flare up” and the Packers will have to hope it doesn’t show up again in the regular season.
