Xavier Lucas and Wisconsin Badgers football team are having a hard time moving on from each other and now, the case is going to get bigger.
The freshman cornerback announced early December on X that he will enter the transfer portal after a relatively successful individual performance for the Badgers.
However, his application to other team barely moves and he and his attorney are blaming the school.
Well known sports attorney Darren Heitner said they are elevating their case against the Badgers by talking to NCAA for holding out his client.
He added that they are ready to take matters to a court system.
Heitner wrote on X:
“This morning, Xavier Lucas retained @HEITNERLEGAL. I have contacted the NCAA demanding that it enforce its rules which require Mr. Lucas’ name to be entered into the transfer database. If Wisconsin doesn’t budge, then we will escalate this matter to litigation.”
Heitner feels Wisconsin Badger is obliged to grant transfer to Xavier Lucas
Talking to NIL Daily, Heitner said Badgers have no argument for holding Lucas since the player met all the requirements he needed to enter transfer portal.
The school only needed two days to process his entry to the portal but they failed. Lucas announced his departure on December 21 and then shared by December 28 that Wisconsin is yet to put him in the transfer portal.
“Wisconsin has thus far denied Xavier from entering the transfer portal despite Wisconsin being a voluntary member of the NCAA, which requires Wisconsin to abide by its rules. A federal judge has already ruled that it is illegal to hamstring athletes by limiting the choices that they have within the relevant market to find a Division I institution that provides the best environment for their academic, mental, and economic well-being.”
Right now, Lucas, who is just one of many Badgers who decided to leave the team after a failed 2024 season, can’t talk to other schools yet. The consequence means seeing his opportunities get limited or other interested schools look for another player instead of him.
