The Wisconsin football staff has made the cut for an intriguing commitment announcement from one of their top 2025 targets.
Tariq Hayer, a four-star corner back in the 2025 recruiting class, is widely considered to be one of the top all-around defenders in the class. After much consideration, the defender has announced that he will be committing to a program on Christmas Day. Hayer is reportedly deciding between Maryland, Penn State, and Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Football Makes Final Cut for Top 2025 Defensive Recruit Tariq Hayer
The Wisconsin football staff has been eagerly recruiting Tariq Hayer since Head Coach Luke Fickell has taken over the staff. The 6-foot, 175-pound corner back is currently ranked as the 114th player nationally and the 15th overall corner back in the class. Hayer is also the second-overall player in Washington, DC, behind safety Kainoa Winston.
Hayer is a versatile, strong corner back with incredible speed and impressive instincts on the field. Two seasons ago, the corner back recorded four interceptions for his team during limited playing time. What is most intriguing about Hayer is his field vision and his eye for the football before it is even released.
Wisconsin football under Coach Fickell will look different, despite the changes not taking full effect this season. However, Fickell can only achieve his changes by bringing in talent that represents the play-style the Badgers desperately need. Hayer could be just the player the Wisconsin football program needs due to his natural ability and winning mentality.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Land Tariq Hayer on Christmas Day?
Currently, Hayer is expected to have hats for Wisconsin, Penn State, Maryland, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati at the table during his commitment. Penn State has been a major figure in the recruitment of Hayer due to their success recruiting players from the District of Columbia. Hayer stated following his visit to Penn State that he “loved the atmosphere and coaching staff.”
The Wisconsin football staff could certainly land Hayer despite his strong ties elsewhere. The recruit spent time in Madison this summer for skill camps and had his chance to meet with the staff. Hayer was scheduled to attend the game against Ohio State, but unfortunately could not attend due to flight issues.
