It has not been a good past six days for Wisconsin football. Last Friday, while fighting for their bowl eligibility lives, the Wisconsin Badgers fell flat at home against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. In the ensuing four days, Wisconsin has lost many players to the transfer portal, mainly those on the defensive side of the ball. However, on Wednesday, the Badgers lost a primetime playmaker at wide receiver.
Trech Kekahuna, Wisconsin football’s third most productive wide receiver, entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. Kekahuna is the eighth Badger to enter the transfer portal. Meanwhile, the Wisconsin faithful are feeling the loss of Kekahuna, flooding Twitter in sorrow following his departure.
Wisconsin Football Fans Crushed By Loss of Top Receiver
According to Pete Thamel of ESPN:
Wisconsin freshman wide receiver Trech Kekahuna is entering the NCAA transfer portal; he tells ESPN. @trechkekahuna caught 25 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns for the Badgers this year. He’ll have three years of eligibility.
Wisconsin football lost their eighth player in four days on Wednesday, with wide receiver Trech Kekahuna darting for the transfer portal. A three-star recruit in the class of 2023, Kekahuna caught four passes for 64 yards last season. As a true Sophomore this season, Kekahuna collected 25 receptions, 339 yards, and two touchdowns. In the season finale against Minnesota, Kekahuna caught six passes for 64 yards. However, he will leave Madison, Wisconsin, after two seasons.
Before joining Wisconsin football, Kekahuna had offers from Arizona, Boise State, Nevada, Hawaii, Oregon, Texas A&M, Utah, and Washington State, among others. Following his transfer portal entry, Kekahuna has picked up a Crystal Ball prediction for the Arizona Wildcats per 247Sports. Nevertheless, the Wisco faithful did not hold back when expressing their disbelief in the program following the loss of Kekahuna:
This one hurts. What a player. Badgers failing to utilize his talents and skillset in a year in which the offense struggled so much is one of the great mysteries of the 2024 Badgers Football Team. Wish him nothing but the best.

Tough to blame him. His under utilization was ridiculous. One of many of my complaints about Longo is he didn't put packages together (or enough) for his playmakers. He seemed so into “his system” he could adapt to his roster.

Remeber how good he looked against LSU in the bowl game, when he had a capable QB

Sickening

I’m sure they appreciated him, but they didn’t have a quarterback that could throw the ball to him. So he went to waste.

Trech Kekahuna enters the portal.
There’s zero loyalty to whatever the football program currently “is”.
Things will continue to get worse as long as the masses continue to act like there’s nothing wrong. This program will go down in flames unless they make serious changes pic.twitter.com/JKyWrwxugs

This just takes the fan out of college football. Get burned enough times and you stop having vested interest in players. Why would I get attached to a good young player when it just means they're leaving? Hard to justify the same level of interest in college athletics I once had.

That's a big loss. I think he could have developed into a top WR in the Big Ten.

I’ve never tweeted about a player more than Trech Kekahuna, constantly questioning last year why the Badgers didn’t utilize him more. It’s the same frustration I felt with Isaac Guerendo— https://t.co/62DWh4dWv4
