The Wisconsin football staff has recently fallen in love with the state of Texas, and a prized 2029 recruit in the state feels the same about Madison.
Gederius “GD” Epps, a 2029 athlete who plays both sides of the field, has recently become a recruit to watch in the state. Epps is considered one of the top recruits headed into high school next season and will attend Rockwall High School. Rockwall has plenty of history with Wisconsin, and could have more if Epps joins the program in the future.
Wisconsin Football Program Slowly Becoming Hotbed for Texas Athletes
The Wisconsin football staff has slowly begun to develop pipelines in Texas as the staff expands their recruiting reach. The Badgers have adventured to states like Arizona, Florida, and Georgia in search of the best talent they can find. Recently, Texas has become a place the Badgers love as they have landed four recruits in the past three recruiting classes.
While four recruits may not be a lot, the Wisconsin football staff is just starting to expand their reach. The amount of general interest coming out of the state of Texas and the amount of offers sent to recruits in the state is continuing to grow each season. Perhaps the most notably recent recruits are quarterbacks Mabrey Mettauer and Landyn Locke.
Locke, the brother of Wisconsin football backup quarterback Braedyn Locke, committed to the Badgers nearly a year ago. The Rockwall High School attendee is from the same area as another recruit who may end up on the Wisconsin football recruiting radar in the future. 2029 athlete Gederius Epps has slowly become one of the top players to watch out for in the future in the state of Texas.
Epps is an exceptional athlete and a great person off of the field as well, spending extreme amounts of time trying to improve his game. When asked about his skills on the field, Epps stated, “My hands are my best ability along with my ability to help my teammates focus on their assignments.” The athlete has a great feel for the game at a very young age and plays as if he is an on-field coach for his teammates.
What Does Gederius Epps Bring to the Table on the Football Field?
For Gederius Epps, there is plenty the exceptional athlete is able to bring to the field when fully unleashed. Epps is a track and field star turned exceptional wide receiver as his potential in one sport has carried over to the other. The athlete still runs track and also plays basketball as well, but by far has the most potential in football moving forward.
Epps is a versatile athlete on the football field, playing both side of the field and excelling on both sides as well. Epps primarily plays as a wide receiver and that likely will become the position he plays in college, but he can also play cornerback with relative ease. Between the speed and hands of Epps, wide receiver seems like the best position in the future, but may change as the athlete continues to grow.
Currently, Epps sits at 6-feet-1-inch, and roughly 175-pounds but still has plenty of room on his frame to fill out. Once Epps reaches his full physical potential, it could be difficult for opposing teams to stop the athlete on either side of the field. On the defensive side, Epps has excellent speed and vision, and with another 10-15 pounds the athlete could be an immovable island as a cornerback.
On the offensive side of the ball, Epps has the potential to truly dominate opposing defensive backs as a receiver. If Epps can properly throw on enough weight to fill his frame out, the athlete could certainly become a big, physical, and fast target on offense.
