The Wisconsin football team continues to leak players via the transfer portal. On Tuesday, Wisconsin saw a season-high five players dart for the portal, just two days after two defensive players, headlined by edge rusher Leon Lowery Jr., left the program. Wednesday was quieter, although budding star wideout Trech Kekahuna jumped for the portal. On Thursday, the Wisconsin Badgers announced that another player, defensive lineman Hank Weber, will leave for the transfer portal.
A three-star recruit in the class of 2024, Brewer is the fourth defensive lineman in the past week to leave the Wisconsin football program. He is also the first member of the 2024 recruiting class to enter the transfer portal.
Wisconsin Football Freshman Enters Transfer Portal
According to Jesse Temple of The Athletic:
Wisconsin defensive lineman Hank Weber to the transfer portal. He’s the first member of the 2024 recruiting class to go. Badgers have had 12 scholarship players head to the portal so far.
Hank Weber is now the 12th scholarship player to leave the Wisconsin football program following their regular season finale last Friday. The Wisconsin Badgers went 5-7 this season, marking their worst season since 2001 and breaking a 23-year bowl streak. As for Weber, he was a member of the 2024 recruiting class, the first under current head coach Luke Fickell.
Weber, a six-foot-four, 275-pound defensive lineman, played his high school football at Brentwood Academy, helping lead them to the Tennessee Division II-AA title in 2023. He was a three-star recruit and held offers from Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Tennessee, among others. He did not record a statistic this season.
Wisconsin Continues to Bleed Transfers
Much like most of the non-bowl eligible teams, Wisconsin football continues to bleed transfers after their season ended last weekend. Thursday’s first transfer, freshman Hank Weber, did not play for the team this season. However, fellow transfers Trech Kekahuna, Curt Neal, and Leon Lowery Jr. played significant snaps this year.
Kekahuna, a sophomore, had 25 receptions for 339 yards and two touchdowns this season. Meanwhile, Neal and Lowery had 29 tackles apiece while combining for four TFLs. Wisconsin has lost 12 players to the transfer portal and still awaits their first incoming transfer.
