Tuesday was eventful in the Big Ten basketball landscape. No. 18 Wisconsin basketball, however, did not have a very good day, as the Badgers suffered an 85-83 loss to the UCLA Bruins at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. The loss to Mick Cronin’s squad cooled down the Badgers, who entered the contest on the heels of a seven-game win streak.
The defeat at the hands of the Bruins also dropped the Badgers to 15-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. It was a missed opportunity for Wisconsin basketball to gain even more ground in the Big Ten standings, especially after the No. 11 Purdue Boilermakers got stunned by the Ohio State Buckeyes, 73-70, also on Tuesday. The Boilermakers are now 15-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference, trailing only the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans (7-0) and the No. 21 Michigan Wolverines (6-1).

Moreover, the Oregon Ducks also won on Tuesday, 82-71, against the Washington Huskies, which means there are now four Big Ten teams with identical 5-3 conference records. Apart from the Badgers and the Ducks, the No. 17 Illinois Fighting Illini and the Indiana Hoosiers also branding 5-3 slates in the Big Ten.
John Tonje led the Badgers in the UCLA game with 24 points while John Blackwell added 23 points. However, Wisconsin’s bench mustered just 12 points to 41 by UCLA’s backups.
Wisconsin basketball will look to return to its winning ways on Sunday when the Badgers return home in Madison to host the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
