Wisconsin basketball has found its groove of late, and a big reason for that is the exceptional play of sophomore guard John Blackwell.
The high-scoring Badgers weapon was back at it again on Monday, as he went off for 21 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field while adding four rebounds, three dimes and a steal in 33 minutes during the Badgers’ 75-63 humbling of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Wisconsin also showed poise in the second half to stymie the comeback attempts of Rutgers, who was held by the Badgers to just 34.2 percent shooting from the field.
“This game shows the maturity and leadership we have on this team,” Badgers said after the Rutgers game (h/t Wisconsin Basketball’s X account). “They went on their runs, the crowd got into it, and we never wavered, never went away. We showed our pace and finished it the right way.”

Wisconsin basketball star John Blackwell is on a tear
Blackwell is on a heater, and the Badgers will look to keep giving him his touches while he’s on a groove. Before the meeting with Rutgers, Blackwell torched the Iowa Hawkeyes for 32 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field in a 116-85 victory in Madison last Friday.
He has now scored at least 10 points in seven straight games, and he could extend that streak this coming Friday when the Badgers host the Minnesota Golden Gophers, whose faulty defense is just ranked 17th in the Big Ten in terms of adjusted defensive efficiency.
