While the Wisconsin basketball staff has started scouting the 2027 recruiting class, an in-state star in being formed right in front of their eyes.
Gavin Valeri, a 2027 recruit from Hortonville, has been making strides this summer as part of elite AAU program Team Haliburton. Valeri has already begun to draw plenty of interest from various basketball programs, but does not hold any offers yet. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Valeri broke down his dream scholarship offer as well as his skills on the court.
Wisconsin Basketball In-State Scouting Target Gavin Valeri Developing Greatly
The Wisconsin basketball staff and multiple other schools have scouted around the 2027 recruiting class and offered some initial scholarships. Some recruits, however, have become a scouting focus for some programs as they continue to explore the 2027 recruiting class.
One such recruit has been Milwaukee Academy of Science guard Gavin Valeri, who has had an impressive summer season. Valeri started off at his native Hortonville High School, but has transferred to Milwaukee to complete his high school career. With a boost in overall competition and skill-level this upcoming season, Valeri could take a jump to the next level of his game.
Gavin Valeri: “I Would Love to Hear From UNC Because That is My Dream School”
For Valeri, the recruiting process has been slow early on but it has largely presented a time for the recruit to enjoy what he has accomplished. While the big programs Valeri grew up watching have not offered him a scholarship yet, he is hoping the early contact can turn into future offers.
When asked about what programs he hopes to develop a relationship with, Valeri stated “I would love to hear from UNC because that is my dream school.” Valeri, like many other basketball players and fans, grew up watching the UNC Tar Heels dominate in March. The recruit hopes that his basketball journey will allow him to potentially become a member of the same school he grew up idolizing.
What the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Staff, Other Programs See Out Of Valeri
For the Wisconsin basketball staff and other programs, Valeri is a dynamic guard that can offer them plenty of upside on both sides of the ball. When asked to describe what sets himself apart, Valeri stated, “I’m willing to do whatever it takes for my team to win.” What Valeri meant by “whatever” was that he can pass, shoot, steal, or block to contribute and assist his team.
Valeri is not a pure shooter, nor is he a defensive specialist, but rather a jack-of-all-trades on the court that can offer help in a variety of ways. The guard admitted that he still wants to improve his game, but he is especially focused on improving his vertical and weight at this time. Valeri feels is he can become stronger and increase his jumping ability then he can truly stand-out on the court.
