Former Wisconsin Badgers linebacker Zack Baun was always a fan favorite. A native of West Bend, Wisconsin, Baun attended his home state university and continued the Badgers’ strong line of intimidating linebackers. He was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, but never really found his footing in the NFL there.
Of course, the Saints are not the best model of a successful NFL franchise, especially over the last few years. When Baun hit free agency after the 2023 NFL season, he had played 62 games, one career interception, 88 career tackles, and 2.0 career sacks.
He signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $3.5 million, a contract that will go down as one of the best bargains in recent memory.
Former Wisconsin Badgers Linebacker Zack Baun Has Made NFL History with the Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles, who are the Green Bay Packers‘ most likely opponent for the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs, announced today that they will be resting their starters in Week 18. That means that Baun, on of their starters, likely will not play this weekend.
If he does not play, Baun will end the 2024 season with 151 tackles, five forced fumbles, four passes deflected, one fumble recovery, and an interception.
According to Jeff Kerr, who covers the Eagles for CBS, Baun is the first player in NFL history to record 150+ tackles and five forced fumbles in a season:
Zack Baun is the only player in #NFL history with 150+ tackles and 5+ forced fumbles in a season.#Eagles

As mentioned previously, Baun signed a one-year contract worth $3.5 million with Philadelphia last offseason.
It is safe to say he will get a much more lucrative deal in 2025.
