It looks like Wisconsin Badgers basketball team’s three-game slump is behind them after winning their fifth straight on Friday with Steven Crowl’s resurgence being pointed to as the main reason.
Badgers blow out the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 80-59, with Crowl leading the way through his efficient game of 18-5-3.
The 7-foot center has scored in double digits since their last loss and that probably has a lot to do with his coach Greg Gard calling him out for not being aggressive on the boards.
“There’s ways that they can impact the game in other areas,” a frustrated Gard told media back in December 11 when they lost to Illonois.
“I think defensively, you look at [Steven Crowl’s] line, he has no rebounds. How do you have no rebounds?
Crowl never responded to the call out but instead let his game do the talking.
Since the call out, the Badgers went on a roll with him leading the charge. They won against Butler, Detroit Mercy, Iowa, Rutgers and the latest against Minnesota – all of them were double digit victories.
In that span, Crowl averaged 16.6 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Greg Gard praises Steven Crowl after Minnesota performance
Gard is someone who tells things as they are.
He calls out bad performance but also give praises when there is something worth praising.
Crowl received the latter after their win against Minnesota.
“He was a grown man,” Gard said. “That’s what we’ve seen here since Butler. He understands how good he can be when he’s aggressive. I think the rotational shift and getting him in and out in shorter spurts has helped. But he’s also just been assertive and dominant in his own way. It’s great to see.”
Next up for Crowl and the Badgers are the Ohio State Buckeyes.
