The Wisconsin Badgers absorbed a painful blow Wednesday night in the form of an upset 72-68 road loss to the Michigan Wolverines. It was the Badgers’ third loss in a row and fourth defeat in conference play. The setback also drew all sorts of reactions from fans and college basketball observers.
“The #Badgers lose their third straight: 72-68 to the 7-15 Michigan Wolverines. Yikes,” shared X user @B5Q.
“Bad, bad loss to a bad, bad Michigan team, aka the UnFab Five on defense and during the second half. In fact, the Wolverines have been one of the worst teams in major college basketball after intermission. Until, that is, the struggling Badgers obliged with some uninspiring play,” commented @LucasAtLarge.
I can bear to watch about another minute and a half of this #Wisconsin game at Michigan before I turn it off#Badgers look apathetic, amateur and boring.
Whether it’s the high ranking or better competition, Badgers are going to be a mid-level Big Ten team, and an eight seed. pic.twitter.com/aOiCDpiMDx— Tim, just Tim (@OffTopicTim) February 8, 2024
From John Fanta: “In the world of shockers, file this one right up there. Michigan, entering the game at 7-15 on the season, beat #11 Wisconsin tonight 72-68. Before last week, the Badgers had four losses TOTAL. They’ve dropped three straight. Dug McDaniel led the way with 16 for the Wolverines.”

#Badgers lose a 3rd-straight game, this one at last-place Michigan. The Wolverines came into the game with just seven total wins all year. pic.twitter.com/3yUOQBcgCS

What’s Next For The Wisconsin Badgers
Many expected the Badgers to take care of business in Ann Arbor, considering that the Wolverines entered the game with a NET rank of 111 and on a five-game losing skid. But the Badgers failed to take care of business, with Michigan making a living from the free-throw line, going 19/25 from the foul line.
The Wisconsin Badgers will look to rebound and stop the bleeding on Saturday against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Piscataway.
