Basketball gods have gained a friend in Wisconsin Badgers hoops legend Clarence Sherrod who the program confirmed passed away around a week ago. He was 75.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of UW Athletic Hall of Famer Clarence Sherrod,” Wisconsin Athletics said in a statement.
“A two-time second-team All-Big Ten honoree, Clarence left an incredible mark on Wisconsin men’s basketball, graduating as the program’s all-time leading scorer. After his time on the hardwood, Clarence earned a law degree from UW in 1975 and was a beloved member of the Wisconsin community. Our thoughts are with the Sherrod family.”
Foster Funeral Homes listed Sherrod’s burial service in its website and indicated there that he died on August 18. Funeral service is on August 27 at the Mt Zion Baptist Church.
Sherrod is one of the most beloved Badgers alum. He is a legend not just to the program but also to the whole community.
Clarence Sherrod’s record breaking stint with Wisconsin Badgers
Badgers have seen legendary players and surperscorers but Sherrod is beyond compare.
Sherrod played for the Badgers from 1968 to 1971 and in that span, he was able to create his own legend by becoming one of most prolific scorers in team history. He was a starter in all those seasons.
It should not be a surprise as according to a 1981 article published by The Gargoyle, he was so good that he had 350 colleges vie for his talent.
He ended his college career with a total of 1,408 points and became the scoring leader in 1970 (22.4 ppg) and 1971 (23.8 ppg).

He also exemplified both the student and the athlete as part of the Badgers. He was awarded the Academic All-Big Ten honors in 1970.
Once he was done with basketball, he returned to Wisconsin to earn a law degree in 1975. He was inducted in the program’s Hall of Fame in 2002.
