The Wisconsin Badgers have kept close contact with a major offensive tackle in the 2027 class who has sights set on big-time play.
Kalel Johnson, a four-star offensive tackle within the 2027 class, has been one of the more active recruits in the class. Johnson picked up offers from Wisconsin, Purdue, Western Michigan, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and Missouri among others. When asked about how the recruiting process has gone, Johnson responded, “The recruiting process has been wild this year. Especially the first day colleges were allowed to reach out. I really felt the love.”
With a steady stream of scholarships flooding in for the offensive tackle, Johnson has begun to focus on what each program brings to the table. “I’ve been looking for a program that has strong team values and treats me like family and not just a football player,” stated Johnson.
Wisconsin Badgers Aiming to Host Offensive Tackle Kalel Johnson During Upcoming Season
Visits can be massive ways for programs to pull closer to recruits, and that is one such reason why the Badgers developed such an intense schedule. Wisconsin has a number of recruits on the radar currently who could be on campus during home games this season, and Johnson is at the top of that list for the staff.
Johnson expressed interest in visiting the Wisconsin Badgers, but also has other schools that have stood out. “I anticipate visiting Wisconsin, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Tennessee in the near future,” stated Johnson.
The Ohio native received a scholarship from Ohio State in April and then earned a crystal ball prediction to commit to the program less than a month later. The Buckeyes have a history of being successful in-state recruiters, and Johnson is currently among the top targets on the board for the Buckeyes. West Virginia has also become program to watch and could be one that secures visits with Johnson in the future.

For the Wisconsin Badgers, hosting Johnson will be crucial as the recruit begins to experience what difference game-day environments are like. Wisconsin has done a great job with Johnson early on, however, and continue to remain in contact with the offensive tackle. Another aspect of the recruitment of Johnson Wisconsin continues to hammer home is the level of competition the program plays against as the offensive tackle ‘thrives’ off of competition.
“The experiences with Wisconsin have been good. [Coach Blazek] reaches out all of the time and stays in contact,” stated Johnson.
Moving forward, the process will likely continue to heat up for Johnson as the offensive tackle has not yet had the chance to showcase his skills on the field since receiving the majority of his scholarship offers. The upcoming season for Johnson could become a valuable one as the 2027 Wisconsin Badgers target still has plenty of time to improve his ranking.
