Wisconsin Badgers‘ seven-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the UCLA Bruins, 83-85. They almost got the win but John Tonje and Steven Crowl are both not clinging to the ‘almost’.
Coach Greg Gard‘s squad visited UCLA as the more favored team being the higher ranked one. It looked like it at the first half when they built a five-point lead going to the break.
However, the hosts chipped their lead little by little and then were able to take over in the nine minute mark of the second half.
Despite losing control, the Badgers were still very much in the game. They even had the chance to take the lead with a three point shot with nine seconds remaining but John Blackwell missed an attempt and then gave away two more free throws.
Talking to reporters post-game, Tonje expressed discontent with their performance despite the grit they showed late in the game.
“I always try to keep an optimistic view,” said Tonje.
“We were here, close. There are no moral victories. Obviously we lost tonight, but we feel like we’re right there and we’re going to keep learning.”
Steven Crowl says it is time to watch films again
While Tonje does not see the loss as a moral victory, big man Steven Crowl feels quite the opposite.
He said it does not feel good to lose but that is what he felt after the game against the UCLA Bruins.
However, he insisted that they have more assignment now after the flop.
“We’re going to watch the film and get better from it. We play again Sunday (against Nebraska). That is the good thing about basketball. You go right back out there and try to address the issues.”
